Lower Than Atlantis 08.12.14

Wednesday, 10 December 2014

Another month another gig haha. This was a really exciting one for me as I haven't actually seen these guys before at a gig. I saw them at Reading but I didn't really know who they were. Lower Than Atlantis is a name that has popped up a few times whilst living back at home as they are from my hometown of Watford. During the summer I went on a listening spree and instantly fell for their laid back attitude and catchy tunes. I would highly recommend their new album its so easy to listen to but each song is completely different which is so rare to hear. My personal favourite as I've said before is Here We Go, I'm always attracted to the heavier sounding songs. I literally had no idea what to expect. I find it fascinating going to majority of the gigs I do as I always get looked at as if to say 'what are you doing here' usually by really young teenage girls that literally look like clones of each other. I love dressing in a way that's not like everyone else because people instantly think I don't know who the band are. Definite case of never judge a book by it's cover.
They played a mix of old and new songs which was nice and from start to end the crowd really seemed to love it. I felt like the time they played went far too quickly as before I knew it they'd finished. Mike the singer definitely knows how to get a crowd going and I think he's jokes. Some of the lines he came out with...too funny. Lots of festive tunes being played too as it was a Christmas party after all. Missed my chance to wear my Christmas jumper dammit. Both myself and Lizzie were left feeling happy as both out favourite songs were played.

The day as a whole was fun. I got to catch up with one of my closest friends Lizzie who I don't get to see that often. She is honestly so much fun to hang out with and can make me laugh constantly. We walked around Covent Garden and it's so pretty at Christmas time. If you get the chance to go then do it! She took me to Wagamams for the first time so soo good. I had the chicken katsu curry it was amazing. We then walked around the shops. And can I just say I didn't buy anything, round of applause for me. We went to MAC and it was so hard not to buy anything but I resisted spotted a few things I will get my hands on soon.
I don't know why but it felt weird seeing people from your hometown doing so well, I guess I think that I've probably walked past them and not had a clue who they were haha.. Last week of uni before Christmas break get me home now :)

Twin Atlantic at the Roundhouse 03.05.14

I love going to a gig. There are many reasons that makes me crave them. My love for music and seeing it live. The atmosphere and feeling of unity in a room. The conversations that happen with random people. Visiting new venues. I'd say the main thing is that I get lost when I'm seeing music, it's a time where I don't have to worry about my daily stresses and I guess 'let my hair down'.
I can't remember the last time I haven't had something on my mind lately. Whether it's university, starting a new job or trying to juggle my work my brain is constantly thinking about something.  Guess that's contributing to the lack of sleep I seem to be experiencing lately :( eurgh. I haven't gone to many gigs this year purely because I can't afford them. Although the bands I tend to see majority of the time don't sell tickets for extortionate prices it does add up. This term I've gone crazy and booked three gigs (shhh don't tell the parents). So I have been looking forward to this gig for sooo long as it's a chance for me to actually have a night off plus see one if my favourite bands.
The Roundhouse as a venue I think is pretty damn cool. It's such a beautiful place that I guarantee if you ever get to go and see something there you will instantly look up and just look around. I've seen a play their by Robert Le Page for my uni course, weirdest play I've seen in my life. Also I saw Enter Shikari their back in 2012 too, aw good times! I think it's a building that has a lot of character and it being in Camden makes it even more appealing. That place is always fun to venture to. I'm one of these people that if I like a band I'll see them again and again and again. If I like their music then of course I want to see them play it live. This is my fifth time seeing Twin Atlantic and they never do disappoint. By far the best time I've seen them.
Oh yeah forgot to say I went with my friend from uni Sade, I've made her into a Twin Atlantic fan. We started off by popping to Starbucks , shocker. We went a bit crazy as we wanted to warm up yet ended up getting cold drinks. Yeah cause that make sense. It's got so cold right now, I'm enjoying it though. We sat had a bit of a chat as I attempted to look at the settings on my camera. We then joined the queue and didn't have to wait that long.
The support acts I really enjoyed. There were two called The Xcerts and Nothing But Thieves. Both bands seemed to really get the crowd going and there songs were really enjoyable to listen to. I personally really enjoyed Nothing But Thieves, I really want to see them again. I've actually just this minute downloaded one of their songs so I must like them aha.
Course Twin Atlantic were epic and the nice thing was they were so excited to be up there. You could tell by their faces how amazed they were when everyone sung back their lyrics. I wish I could experience what that feeling was like. This band has made me have a full appreciation for the Scottish accent haha. They played a mixture of their new album and some old classics. I Am An Animal, Brothers and Sisters and Ghost of Eddie were all played which made me so happy. And they did an acoustic set of Crash Land, literally everyone sang back, had the lights on their phones in the air. It gave me shivers it was soooo good! I of course like I do at most gigs sung/shouted back the lyrics in my tone deaf way, bounced like a maniac as I physically cannot jump for long periods of time and stuck my arm in the air way to often.

I so needed that night out. I can only thank Twin Atlantic for making my night so enjoyable. I'll now be listening to them for weeks. Seeing your favourite band and discovering a new band you like, double win.

Great Divide

Tuesday, 26 August 2014

I don't if this is of any interest to anyone, but I want to write things I'm personally interested in and it may give you an incite into what I like a bit more. So being the music junkie I am, I just felt I had to write about my excitement for an album I have been waiting to get my grubby hands on for what feels like forever!!. The album is called Great Divide by the glorious Twin Atlantic. If you don't know who Twin Atlantic are then they are a four piece rock band from Scotland. My friend introduced me to them a couple of years ago and I've been hooked ever since.

Total number of times I've seen them- 4 (I hope to see them again soon)

I would highly recommend this album!! I mean to be honest I doubt I'm going to hate any song they release. This album seems to have a very versatile sounds compared to their last album. I love the fact they create songs that easy to listen to, chorus' you can grasp straight away and the occasional really heavy guitar parts.

The lyrics I love as I feel like they're written for a purpose. So many songs in my opinion nowadays feature lyrics that don't really mean anything, only saying what people think is the norm. Globalisolation and Be a Kid are the perfect examples of lyrics I think are interesting to listen to. If you want a fun song listen to I am an Animal, I bet you can't get through the whole song without doing some form of dancing haha (challenge accepted??)

Heart and Soul and Brothers and Sisters are singles that you may have heard on the radio.

They're a band that are quickly rising in popularity and fully deserve it. I would highly recommend giving this album a listen. Anyone else a Twin Atlantic fan??
